The Buckhorn Cabin is an approximate 150 yard hike on foot from the driveway once you arrive.  A trail to the right of the Colorado Cabin leads guests down the Tomichi Creek, where guests will cross our bridge then ascend a short 25-yard climb before hiking over to the right where the Buckhorn Cabin and outhouse are in plain sight.

Are you kid friendly?

We love kids! Kids ages 6 - 12 are charged $20 per kiddo, per night. Kids 5 and under have no charge. Please be mindful of your kiddos. This is a rustic outdoor property with a large variety of wildlife.

What about Pets?

Your dog is very welcome at Tomichi Lodge, Colorado Cabin and Buckhorn Cabin. Please help us to remain dog friendly. No dogs allowed on beds, furniture, or bedding. Please pick up and pack out your dog’s poo! This is especially important around the cabin and lodge. Please wipe off wet or muddy dogs before allowing them into the lodge or cabin, and please bring your own dog towel and any bedding your dog needs. No cats, pigs, goats or ostriches please.  Horses OK with prior communication and permission from Tomichi Lodge.

Is there cell phone coverage?

No. The main Tomichi Lodge has a landline for calling out in an emergency. Depending on one’s carrier, one can sometimes get cell phone reception about five miles down the road, just past Snowblind Campground, or from the Continental Divide, 1.5 miles up the mountain side.

Is there wifi?

No. The main Tomichi Lodge has a landline for calling out in an emergency.

Is there electricity and plumbing?

Tomichi Lodge is connected to an off-grid hydro-electric/solar set up. It offers limited electricity (lights, low wattage appliances, and the well pump.) The lodge has hot and cold running water. The bathrooms have flush toilets, hot showers, and sinks. Kitchen has a plumbed sink, electric fridge, and propane stove. Both Buckhorn and Tomichi Creeks run through the property and offer clear water for washing and filtering.  There is no plumbing inside either Buckhorn or Colorado Cabin - guests use outhouse adjacent to Buckhorn Cabin.

Do I need a 4-Wheel Drive to access the property?

PEAK SUMMER/FALL (June - early-November):  Guests can drive all the way to the property with a vehicle with GOOD GROUND CLEARANCE.  The last mile and a half of the road is not maintained, so the drive becomes quite rocky at the end. 4WD is not technically necessary, but is recommended.

Is the property accessible in Winter?

PEAK WINTER (December - April):  The road is plowed up to the Black Sage Pass Parking Area.  Guests either ski, snowshoe or snowmobile  the 5.5 mile one-way hike, with a gradual elevation gain of 1,000 feet.

SPRING AND LATE FALL (late-April - late-May and late-November - early-December): County Road 888 snow conditions will vary allowing guests to drive past Black Sage Parking Area to shorten the 5.5 mile one-way hike.  That being said, guests need to know what the local snow forecast is calling for so not to drive to far up and get stuck and/or snowed in.

Guests and their vehicles are at their own risk if they decide to drive past the Black Sage Parking Area.  Tomichi Lodge, LLC is not responsible for towing or paying for towing if guests get snowed in.

Inquire about package deals that include snowmobile transport.
