Mountain Biking
World class mountain biking surrounds Tomichi Lodge. Riders near and far often utilize Tomichi’s central location as a basecamp to explore the area’s abundance of leg-burning single track. With some of Colorado’s highest and longest descents just out the front door there’s no shortage of adrenaline pumping thrills for mountain biking aficionados.
Located directly on the Canyon Creek Trail, many locals consider this 19-mile loop one of the area’s best rides, combining a grueling climb to over 12,500’ before starting the incredibly picturesque descent. The descent ends approximately 4.5 miles below Tomichi Lodge where guests can either climb back to the lodge via County Road 888 or park a vehicle and shuttle back.
The world famous Monarch Crest Trail is just a short 45-minute car ride from Tomichi Lodge and offers one of the top ten best mountain biking descents in the country. Over 34 miles of overall descent starts at Monarch Pass and follows the Continental Divide for a good stretch before dumping riders out in Poncha Springs.
Other local’s favorite trails include Cottonwood Tour, the Rainbow Trail and the Raspberry Gulch Loop. Riders looking to explore a bit from Tomichi can easily get to and tackle one of many epic day rides in Crested Butte just 1.5 hours away. A ‘must do’ ride in Crested Butte is the iconic 401 Trail. Riders needing any further local advice should stop by Salida Bike Company and Absolute Bikes, both locally owned and operated out of downtown Salida.
